Dryer Vent Cleaning

Typically we do not think about dryer vent cleaning until clothes start taking a long time to dry or the heating element burns out. Purchasing a new dryer will not solve venting problems. Many new dryers have a warning light to indicate dryer vent restriction.

Dryer vents clog with lint when particles bypass the lint screen and travel through the vent with warm moist air. This lint clings to the walls of the duct causing accumulation inside the vent restricting airflow. This accumulation restricts airflow and causes back pressure. The dryer keeps tumbling the clothing but turns the heat off and on repeatedly to prevent overheating problems and fires. The dryer starts taking longer and longer to dry clothes and will eventually stop working entirely.

Experts recommend yearly dryer vent inspections and/or cleaning. Longer vents or those with lots of turns may require maintenance more frequently.
